Further to our Marketflash M11014, dated 10 August 2011, the Hellenic Capital Markets Commission (HCMC) has decided to extend the short-selling prohibition until 9 December 2011.

The decision was taken in consultation with the competent authorities in Belgium, France, Italy and Spain that have adopted similar measures under the coordination of ESMA, and after taking into account current market conditions, as well as the impact of the short-selling prohibition that has been in force since 8 August 2011.

The HCMC will continue to work closely with the said authorities, monitoring market developments that may require new regulatory action, including the eventual lifting of the short-selling prohibition.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide more information as it becomes available.
