Slovak Republic: Abolishment of withholding tax on interest distributions from corporate bonds for non-resident beneficial owners

Further to Taxflash T23002 and following the approval by the Slovak President of an amendment to the Slovak Income Tax Act with respect to the taxation of income derived from Slovakian corporate bonds, Clearstream Banking1 informs clients that effective

18 April 2023

income derived from Slovakian corporate bonds (including Bank bonds) owned by non-resident beneficial owners, shall cease to be subject to 35% withholding tax by default and shall instead be subject to a default withholding tax rate of 0%.

Impact on clients

Non-resident beneficial owners will no longer be subject to withholding tax on income distributions derived from Slovak corporate bonds (including bank bonds) made on or after 18 April 2023.

Clearstream Banking is assessing the opportunity to offer a reclaim service in relation to income distributions made on or after 1 January 2023 but before 18 April 2023.
